Image Could Be Just About Everything

July 26, 2006

Now I’ve said this before, but for me it’s difficult to discover new artists on purevolume.com. With music being so asexually reproductive these days, about seventy percent of all new artists are just carbon copies of each other. So when I saw the following shot of unsigned solo artist, Lady Gaga, I had to think it was some kind of joke. Because as we all know, using sexual imagery to promote your music just makes everyone lose respect for anything you have to offer.

Or, as I’ve learned, in some cases it makes you check out what they have to offer just to be proved so very wrong.

“Retrosexual” was the first song I listened to, a song which starts out with Lady Gaga saying, “So what do you say we get out of here, kid?” Really, what I figured I would be listening to would be some kind of poppish dynamic creation with a girly-girl voice whining about how much she enjoyed cheating on her man. I figured I wouldn’t have too much of a problem with it, because honestly, I still listen to Britney’s latter work when I’m in a sleazy music mood – but let’s just keep that our little secret, okay?

After listening to her entire stream of music, however, I realized that Lady Gaga was more than just the poster girl in front of some fancy wallpaper. Really, she’s good. Really good. She’s a singer, songwriter, pianist, and every part of her being shines through every track with significant portions. Her sound isn’t quite new or dynamic, but she has some kind of quality to her that separates her from similar acts.

For the most part, she’s seemingly virtually unknown, save for her growing fan-base in New York, and the Internet community on places like purevolume and myspace. But what these fans (including myself) are saying is more than promising. Every day or so I hear critiques about the next big thing, but no artist has ever been as promising as Lady Gaga. (Currently her song, “Wonderful” is the third most requested track on iwebradio.com.)

Truthfully, though, it’s hard to say if she’ll really make it huge like Mariah Carey or Christina (whose last name I can never spell correctly). I still think she has more potential than that. Whether or not she actually gets it, you can still listen to her and show everyone your hot pictures of Lady Gaga and swear that you listen to good music.

I do.

Lady Gaga is clearly the next big thing to happen. She’s got an amazing voice, she’s talented, she writes her own music, and is definitely the next big star to blow up. Listen to “Beautiful Dirty Rich” it will change your life.

in what way, exactly, did “beautiful rich dirty” change your life? this music sounds like it was sampled straight from an 80’s club in NY with some pitch-corrected vocals splattered on it. I’m guessing whoever wrote that review is on the Gaga payroll. Is that you Rob Fusari? come on people, if this girl was overweight and from kansas, would anyone be listening?

I don’t know if anyone even reads this but I saw her in perform in person last year and was blown away. Her vocals were unique and even if she was 300 lbs she would still sound sexy. Her lyrics were great as well. In fact, I’m going to try and cast her in a film.

GaGa is great!! I saw her at Lollapalooza 07 not knowing anything about, just that she had an interesting name, and she’s awesome! her vocals are great and her weird/confident attitude is so sexy.

“Paparazzi” is my favorite song by her, and she’s got a new song “Just Dance” with Akon and Colby O’Donis thats actually getting some promotion (buy it on iTunes and other online music retailers!) and hopefully she’ll get a debut album out there, and I’ll definitely be getting it! She’s got a really unique nature here…love her!!

  11. You know what I don’t like. When people can’t see a good thing when it is right in front of them. I think she is very talented. She isn’t just about the music but the entertainment and fashion. 150 percent POP! The show she puts on is for those who like it. If you don’t oh well. All I know is she is going to be big. I can NOT wait for her album to come out in October!!!! If you haven’t go check out her performance on So You Think You Can Dance. As for those of you who think “she’s trying to hard.” please. Haters need not apply.

It is absolutely awesome reading back these comments that date back to 2006. Now, in the close of 2012, Lady Gaga is an enormous star- and my idol as well. It is quite inspiring to see a girl that came from virtually nothing rise to such success. I’m seeing Gaga in two different sold out stadiums in the same week in February. SO SURREAL…I’m so proud of her.

Looking at those comments, it’s funny how some people overlooked her talent and potential back then. Right now in 2018, Lady Gaga is one of the greatest pop stars on the planet with 6 Grammys and 200 Million records sold, she headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show last year and what’s more, she’s an inspiration to many all around the world. She’s come such a long way… I’m so proud of her.
